Lisboa is a highly thematic resource management game about the reconstruction of the great Portuguese capital after a series of terrible disasters in the 18th century.

On November 1, 1755, Lisboa was struck by an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 8.5 to 9.0, followed by a devastating tsunami and three days of raging fires. The city was almost completely destroyed. The Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, was then Minister of Foreign Affairs. The king charged him with the reconstruction of Lisboa. The Marquis assembled a team of engineers and architects to help him with this reconstruction.

Lisboa is played on a real city map. During the planning of the reconstruction of the city center, it was determined in advance which types of businesses were allowed on each street. The clockmakers and goldsmiths had their street; just like the bookstores and libraries; the tailors and silk sellers; and also the toolmakers. This is all covered on the Lisboa plate.

You are a member of the nobility, and you use your influence in the reconstruction and business development of the new city. Using your limited hand of cards, you work with construction workers and architects to rebuild Lisboa, while the Marquis develops trade and the King oversees politics as the beautiful new city reopens. As you achieve success, influence, fame and fortune, you will achieve true triumph by collecting the most recognized symbol of greatness in 18th century Europe: Wigs!
