Product description Mexica
Mexica is the 3rd part of the “masks” trilogy, the other two being Tikal (1999) and Java (2000). Mexica is a game of placement, blocking and majority, with simple but subtle rules. The three games are simultaneously different and based on the same action point mechanism.
In 1325, the Aztecs saw an old prophecy come true and decided to build Tenochtitlan, the capital of their empire. You are a “Pilli Mexica”, a nobleman who must help build the city.
Use your action points wisely to build neighborhoods, dig navigation channels, build bridges… and thwart your opponents' plans! Build temples to increase your prestige and become the Emperor's favorite!
The game is based on a system of action points. Each player has 6 action points per turn, which he can use to perform various actions: move his Pilli Mexica, build canals, build temples, build bridges, etc.
Strategy and tactics! The game is often based on opportunism, but the fact that your actions are limited and you can't do what you want or where you want on your turn means that you need to have a strategy for multiple turns!
Interactivity! It's a majority game! And it is possible to block the other players to slow down their movements, change unwarranted quarters, etc. Prepare for some tension around the table!
Management! The game is played in 2 periods, with a limited number of temples of different values to place. Be careful not to just build temples everywhere!
Luck? W. Kramer's answer to this question is “There is happiness in Mexica too”, but we don't see any! Unlike Tikal, where luck plays a role in drawing both tiles and treasure, in Mexica there is no room for chance.
Mexica will suit you if you are also enthusiastic about it Tikal.
