The value of your hand of cow cards must also equal the value of the city you supply, otherwise your cows will go to lesser destinations, resulting in penalty points. You increase the value of your hand by adding new, expensive cows to your herd and discarding cheaper ones in time. During the journey from Texas to Kansas City you can visit general buildings to perform actions there, such as selling cows (to your discard pile), recruiting cowboys, workers and engineers, building your own buildings at locations along the ' Trail' (which you can then visit to take advantageous actions), buying new, expensive cows that yield a lot and increase your reach on the trail. When you supply a city or station, place a token from your tableau at that location.
