French Carcassonne is the best preserved medieval fortified city. The players are landlords and use their serfs to gain as much influence as possible in the area. Each turn you draw a land tile that you then place on the ever-expanding playing field. You may then place a serf such as a highwayman, knight, monk or farmer on the tile you have just placed. With those serfs, of which you of course have a limited number, you score points when their road, city or monastery is completed. They are then returned to stock and can be used again immediately. It becomes difficult if other players, by cleverly placing land tiles, ensure that your serfs no longer have the opportunity to ever return to your supply.
